Human visual system ingeniously creates the visual world, which means the nature of the visual image and not the light from the eye as it is. Despite diverse and complex visual environments, visual system can recognize objects, colors, materials, shapes and 3D positions immediately and almost involuntary. On the other hand, it also causes errors that lead to serious accidents. Our lab investigates the mechanisms and characteristics of visual information processing from the eyes to the brain, and applies the knowledge to effective, safe and comfortable information technology.

Topics of research
  • fundamental research on human vision (color and illumination, 3D perception, eye movement)
  • application to visual information technology
