Business behaviour, industrial structure and public policy in the digital economy

Supervisor
Yoshihito YASAKI: Associate Professor

In our research, we delve into the intriguing dynamics of the digital economy, exploring why different pricing plans exist for smartphones and why services such as commercial broadcast television and search engines are offered free of charge. We also investigate the phenomenon of dominant players emerging in fields like social networking and word-processing software.

Our approach combines microeconomic and statistical methods, including game theory, to analyze these phenomena, aiming to understand the corporate behavior behind them. We are particularly interested in the nature of public policy in these areas and the role of different policies and institutions in fostering innovation.

Moreover, we employ these analytical methods to address a broad range of economic and social issues.
