Smart Mechanical Materials Lab

Create Smart Materials that can "feel," "move," and "judge."

Supervisor
Tetsuro YANASEKO: Associate Professor

We are conducting research on new materials, "smart materials," thatallow the materials themselves to "feel (sensor)," "move (actuator),"and "judgment (controller)" like living things. Many of the productsaround us are made up of materials that perform a single function, such as steel or glass. Smart materials are new-generation materials,by adding functions by combining materials and by expressing new functions that arise from differencesin the characteristics of materials.
