Fluid Engineering Laboratory

Supervisor
Akihisa KONNO: Professor

We study performance analysis method of ice-strengthened ships such as icebreakers, with combination of physically-based modeling and computational fluid dynamics. Performances of floating structures in the polar resions are also studied. These researchers will be used for oil/gas mining in the Arctic region and its transportation to Asia through so called Nothern Sea Route.
We also develop and study fishlike underwater robots and their swarm formations. Experimental robots are developed and investigated by ourselves.

Topics of research
  • Performance analysis of ice-strengtened ship cruising in frozen ocean
  • Development of fishlike underwater robot
